Affiliate Summit East is one of the industry’s biggest rooms for a reason, and this year’s was no exception. This gathering allowed us to connect with industry peers, gain fresh insights into how AI is impacting the Affiliate & PR industries, and leave with a feeling of inspiration for what we’re continuing to build at Suade. Fundamentals Session after session circled the fundamentals: building authentic relationships, knowing your creator’s/publisher’s content, and personalizing your outreach. This was good grounding (and always worth restating), but it also told us something encouraging: there’s genuine space for an agency willing to go further and think creatively. Creators and influencers deserve to be treated less like a media buy and more like the new-wave journalists they’ve become. That reframe opens up a much more interesting way to build the relationship, and we’re glad to be one of the few who are thinking of it that way. Points to Consider in Affiliate A few points we’ve built our approach around got real, energizing confirmation on the ground: Affiliate is still fundamentally a relationship business. The brands that are doing it well aren’t buying placements. Placements are earned, often through content like op-eds that give affiliates something worth associating with. Affiliate is a strategy, not a channel. Treating it as a checkbox line item is exactly why so many programs underperform. Commission structures are shifting toward rewarding action, not just conversion. This is a sign that the industry is finally catching up to how people actually shop: researching across multiple sources before buying anywhere. Many of the conversations were rooted in AI. Much of what large language models cite traces back to affiliate content, not necessarily brand-owned content or press releases on a wire. Tier-one press placements remain a powerful credibility signal for humans, even as some of those same outlets block AI crawlers from their content. Prestige and machine-readability are becoming two different games, and there’s an advantage in knowing how to win both. Keeping Affiliate Fresh Freshness matters more than traditional PR strategies account for, too. AI models refresh what they cite faster than a typical content calendar assumes, which means brands willing to move quickly have a genuine edge over ones still publishing on a quarterly clock. None of this is theoretical for us. It’s how we embarked on building Suade in the first place. Visit EGC’s Suade page.
