New York is proving itself in ways not witnessed in years. The reason, of course, is the Knicks’ current postseason run. The events that are unfolding say as much about the spirit of New York as they do about the sport of basketball itself. Some may call that an overstatement. Those who live here understand why it isn’t.

The New York Knicks: Here, There, Everywhere

Having last won an NBA championship in 1973, the anticipation surrounding this Knicks run has been palpable. From Manhattan to Long Island to points beyond the Hudson, the pride and passion for this team have taken hold across the region.

Watch parties in Bryant Park, packed bars, and crowds gathering throughout the city reflect a level of energy that rivals some of New York’s most defining moments. This is team spirit on full display. Additionally, this sense of spirit goes deeper by revealing what it means to be a New Yorker: Showing up when it matters and maintaining the grit and determination to stay the course, no matter the odds.

Case in point: Tuesday, June 9th and Wednesday, June 10th.

Memories Made at Madison Square Garden

Tuesday, June 9th

This past Tuesday marked a major moment for Madison Square Garden, as the Knicks returned to one of the biggest stages in basketball. What many hoped would be a defining home victory instead became a hard-fought loss, with the Spurs edging out a 115–111 win. Disappointing? Without question. Discouraging? Not at all.

Wednesday, June 10th

Once again, Madison Square Garden took center stage. For much of the night, things looked tough for the Knicks, as the Spurs held a commanding 76–49 lead at halftime.

What followed was something few could have predicted. In a collective surge of energy, focus, and determination, the Knicks mounted a remarkable comeback which resulted in a last-second basket, with just 1.2 seconds remaining, to secure a 107–106 victory.

Next Week…

The next game is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th. This game will determine whether the series continues with additional matchups on Tuesday, June 16th and Friday, June 19th. Time will tell what the outcome will be. Regardless of what comes next, the Knicks have already demonstrated something important.

The New York State of Mind

Wednesday night’s game will be remembered as a defining moment of this NBA competition. This was a comeback that highlighted what makes both this team and state so resilient.

The comeback reflects a mindset that extends well beyond basketball: Face the setback, adjust, and push forward.

This is the determination of a New Yorker.

EGC Founder and Chairman Ernie Canadeo celebrates with Christopher Canadeo, EGC’s Director of Growth at Wednesday’s game.

Going Beyond Team Spirit to New York Spirit

This mindset isn’t confined to the basketball court. It shows up across industries, in businesses, and in the way people approach their work every day.

At EGC Group, we see that same mentality play out firsthand. As a company rooted in New York (with offices in Melville and Brooklyn), we’re inspired by the resilience and drive that define this region.

Phrases on the walls of our office (such as “Obstacles Become Stepping Stones” and “Relationships Outlast Campaigns”) reflect that shared perspective. These aren’t just slogans. They are reminders of how progress is made: By staying committed, adapting when necessary, and always putting people first.

New Yorkers Care

Reviewing the above observation (showing up when it matters and staying the course despite the odds), it becomes clear these principles extend beyond sports. Whether the pursuit is basketball, an advertising campaign, or something else entirely, New Yorkers bring an intensity of care that goes beyond the task itself. It’s not just the outcomes. The people involved and the relationships built along the way are what truly matter.

That’s what defines New York.

And it’s a mindset that continues to shape how work gets done, and how success is earned, every day.
