NBC reportedly paid about $1.1 billion for the rights to air the events in Brazil this week, but has already brought in $1.2 billion in advertising. With a hefty price tag for advertising on both this network’s television and digitally streaming broadcasts also comes the exorbitant cost of being an official sponsor of the event.

Facebook is once again taking social media advertising to a whole new level. On the same day earlier this week, when headlines proclaimed, “Twitter Just Collapsed to an All-Time Low,” as its stock fell to its lowest rate since its IPO launched in November 2013, Twitter announced its new “Connect” tab. While the ability to access contacts from your phone and the network served recommendations of other users to follow already existed, the hope is that this new tab will make it even easier for people to connect and get social on Twitter.

Facebook held its annual F8 developers conference this week, where its leadership discussed a vision for the future. The goal? Creating more reasons to stay within Facebook for all online activities and enabling more users to access the platform, from wherever they may be.
