Ernie Canadeo, Founder and President of The EGC Group, was among the honorees at the “Fifty or so Around 50 Awards” presentation held by Long Island Business News at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury on October 7th. The awards are an acknowledgement of, and salute to, “50 around the age of 50” individuals who have attained success and contributed to the quality of life on Long Island.
The event, which drew over 500 people, included a who’s who of Long Island’s top business people from leading financial institutions, law firms, accounting firms, charitable agencies, as well as many of Long Island’s most prestigious public and private companies.
In an interview with Long Island Business News, Mr. Canadeo answered a range of questions – from what his first job was, to his personal philosophy of success. Discussing his early teenage years as a newspaper delivery boy who won contests by selling more subscriptions than anyone else, he later became advertising director for RCA Records which served as the inspiration to create The EGC Group.
Additionally, Mr. Canadeo elaborated on his other passions, including his personal commitment to his work as Chairman of the National Stuttering Association and the strides made in its research; his family (he is the proud father of twin boys); and his opportunity to meet Dave Davies of The Kinks (as well as purchasing that rock star’s original Vox AC-30 amplifier).
The most pertinent points that Mr. Canadeo made relate to his personal experience that hard work, overcoming obstacles, and perseverance are rewarded – both professionally and personally.
