There are so many ways to advertise in order to get your brand noticed. As the busy holiday season starts, it may be time to start thinking about advertising in the supermarket. There are so many ways to advertise in the supermarket that might not have occurred to you before, and that can help increase the awareness of your brand (even if you don't have a physical product in the store). Opportunities vary from store to store, but check out your local grocer and you’ll likely find many, if not all, of these media opportunities at your disposal!
When you first walk into the supermarket, the first thing to do is grab a cart or a basket. Here is the first opportunity for you to advertise. The cart has the space to feature your brand to remind customers that you are in the area and ready for business.
As you walk through the entrance of the supermarket, you are usually greeted by an Information Board or a Welcome Center that boasts weekly sales flyers, free papers and many other materials. You can post business cards, brochures and flyers here, often for free. During flu season, many centers have complimentary cart wipes near the board, thus driving consumers to it, where they ultimately look at these community announcements before they even walk into the main shopping center.
By the time you are done buying your supplies for the week, you have already been flooded with thousands of brands from aisle to aisle – before you even get to pay! The checkout counter is notorious for boasting brands. Magazines are on display to look through while waiting on line, which is another way to promote your message. Beyond print ads, you can even buy a post-it note to get front page notoriety. Also, when you look up, most checkout counters now have a television screen to keep you entertained during your wait. Now you can also place advertisements on this TV “network.”
And then, look when you start to put your food down. You can even brand the conveyer belt at the grocery store! This is a non-traditional media space that is targeted and gives you a large space and a high impact that is sure to give your brand visibility.
Finally, your bags (which can also be printed with your brand's targeted messaging at some locations) are packed and you are ready to go – now all you need is your receipt. As you grab it, most stores now have the capability of branding the back of the receipt with money-saving coupons that can help to boost sales for your brand.
All-in-all, the supermarket has many targeted advertising opportunities that your brand could favor from (especially now around the holidays, when you know mom is going to forget the creamed spinach). So consider giving the supermarket a try. You may be surprised at the results!
